Police tracking down no-show wedding caterer

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are still tracking down a catering business owner who is suspected of defrauding a newlywed couple after failing to show up as promised at their wedding ceremony in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, last Monday.

Jempol District Police Chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hok said police are conducting an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

"The police are still tracking down the individual in question. Further statements will be issued shortly," he said briefly when contacted by Harian Metro today.

Earlier, a family faced a wedding disaster when their hired catering company failed to show up and did not return calls.

The brother of the bride, Burhanuddin Rabbani Abdul Shukor, 31, said the losses incurred amounted to over RM13,000, involving costs that had already been paid to the involved party located in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The 26-year-old bride reportedly never met the suspect, as they only dealt with each other online to obtain wedding package services.

The victim engaged with a wedding planner from Shah Alam, Selangor, on April 3.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, when contacted, said his department did not open an investigation file involving the company.

He said the investigation into the fraud case is currently only being conducted by the Jempol District Police Headquarters.
