Freeze! Jobless thief apprehended while carting off event hall freezer on motorcycle

SUNGAI PETANI: A jobless man was caught red-handed by the owner of a private event hall after he allegedly stole a freezer on Jalan Sungai Jagung here yesterday.

In the 11.50am incident, three men attempted to steal the RM3,500 freezer from the venue's hall using two motorcycles as their getaway vehicles.

However, the private event venue owner managed to intercept one of the suspects, who was carrying the freezer on his motorcycle.

Kuala Muda district police chief Zaidy Che Hassan said that the 43-year-old suspect was later handed over to police.

"During the incident, the venue owner received a call from an acquaintance, inquiring whether they had instructed anyone to remove items from the hall.

"The owner denied such a request and was also informed about three men transporting the freezer from the hall onto the motorcycles.

"While the owner was heading to the hall, he managed to stop a man with the freezer on the roadside and handed him over to the police," he said in a statement today.

Zaidy said police are tracking down the remaining two suspects.

"The suspect detained tested negative for drugs. However, he has four prior records, including three drug-related offences," he said.
