JOHOR BARU: A fire destroyed a shared housing facility for construction site workers at Jalan Mutiara Emas 10/20 in Taman Mount Austin today.
Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Faiz Ramli said the facility, consisting of 26 kongsi to accommodate the construction workers, was destroyed in the 8.14am fire.
The department dispatched 19 firefighters to the scene, who took almost two hours to extinguish the fire in the semi-permanent shared housing unit.
Faiz said the operation took longer than expected due to limited water resources at the construction site.
He added that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and the estimated cost of the damages.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the workers had evacuated the kongsi when the fire broke out," he said.
