Remand order on inspector allegedly involved in rape case, extended another day

TUMPAT: Police today obtained a remand order for an additional day against an inspector to assist investigations into the rape of a woman who lodged a police report at the station where the suspect is attached to.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Amran Dollah said the remand order was obtained at the Tumpat magistrates court here.

He said the extension on the remand order was obtained under Section 117 of Criminal Procedure Code.

"The earlier seven-day remand order against the 38-year-old suspect ended today and police have obtained another one day extension today to enable us to carry out our investigation into the case," he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

It was reported that a policeman with the rank of inspector had been remanded for seven days beginning Jan 30 to assist investigations into the rape of a woman who lodged a police report at the station to which the suspect was attached.

This comes after a 23-year-old woman claimed that a police inspector had raped her.

The victim, who is an online cosmestics seller, claimed that she was called to Tumpat police headquarters to assist investigations into an extortion case involving pornographic pictures of her friend.

She was then (allegedly) raped by the inspector at the district police headquarters.
