Driver obstructing ambulance in Sri Aman faces action

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sri Aman District Police in Sarawak have taken action against the driver of a Perodua Kembara vehicle for obstructing an ambulance here yesterday.

Sri Aman district Police chief, Deputy Superintendent Mathew Ak Manggie said the driver is being charged under Rule 9 of the Traffic Rules 166/59, which is the offence of not giving way to an ambulance.

"On Friday, around 3pm, a video went viral on social media showing a vehicle not giving way to an ambulance transporting a patient to the Sri Aman Hospital.

A day after the incident, the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement division of the Sri Aman District Police headquarters took action to identify the vehicle and its driver," he said in a statement here yesterday.

Commenting further, Mathew also reminded all road users to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.

"All traffic, when warned of the presence of any ambulance, fire engine, or police vehicle, should give ample space for these vehicles," he said.

Earlier, a 53-second video went viral on social media showing the action of a Perodua Kembara driver obstructing the path of an ambulance in Sri Aman.

It sparked anger among netizens as the ambulance had been sounding its emergency siren for a long time, but the Perodua Kembara driver remained on course without changing lanes.
