Couple fined RM30,000 each for misappropriating company funds

SHAH ALAM: A chief operating officer and a director were today fined RM30,000 each for misappropriating the company's property to issue cash cheques for themselves four years ago.

Sessions Court judge Datuk Anita Haron meted out the sentence after the husband and wife, Tan Ching Peng,61, and Tan Siew Moi,58, pleaded guilty to three and six alternative charges respectively under Section 465 of the Penal Code for forgery.

Anita ordered the couple to serve six months in jail if they failed to settle the fines.

The charge sheet read they had jointly and dishonestly misappropriated property belonging to Syarikat Rekabina Construction Sdn Bhd and issued cash cheques in their own names in 2020 and 2021, an offence under Section 403 of the same code.

They had each misappropriated funds worth RM220,000 and RM382,000 from the company's bank account for their own use.

Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin prosecuted while counsel Asmadi Hussin stood for the accused.
