Eight cops arrested over alleged bribery at police HQ

JOHOR BARU: Eight policemen, including a narcotics inspector, have been remanded for four days for allegedly accepting a RM35,000 bribe at the Seri Alam district police headquarters.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar confirmed the case.

He said the policemen, aged between 20 and 50, were arrested on Monday night after a woman lodged a police report.

He provided no other details.

It is learnt that the complainant claimed to have handed over an envelope containing RM35,000 to one of the eight policemen in a room at the district police headquarters to secure the release of her brother, who was in custody for a drug- related offence.

The 42-year-old lodged the report when her brother was not released.

There have been a number of reports in recent weeks about policemen involved in crime.

On Jan 30, three traffic policemen in Perak made headlines for asking for a bribe from a British influencer couple.
