Two more policemen arrested in relation to extortion case

JOHOR BARU: Two more police officers from the Seri Alam district police headquarters (IPD) were detained yesterday to assist in the investigation of extortion involving RM35,000 in cash.

Johor Police Chief Commissioner M Kumar said the two suspects were remanded for two days until tomorrow, in connection with the extortion involving the family of the suspect detained in a drug-related case.

"Two more police officers from the Seri Alam IPD were detained yesterday to assist in the investigation of the case.

"However, one police officer with the rank of inspector and seven others from the Seri Alam IPD who were remanded since last Wednesday have been released on police bail yesterday," he said in a statement.

On Wednesday, it was reported that a police officer with the rank of inspector and seven others from the Seri Alam IPD had been arrested to assist in an extortion case involving RM35,000 cash.

M Kumar had said all eight individuals aged between 20 and 50 years old were remanded for four days for investigation under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

At 9.32 pm on Monday, the Johor Police received a report regarding an alleged extortion case involving a sum of RM35,000 and police personnel from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Seri Alam IPD.

A 41-year-old female laundry attendant claimed to have filed the police report, alleging that a police officer demanded RM40,000 to release her brother detained in a drug-related case.

The complainant reportedly went to the Seri Alam IPD and handed over RM35,000 to the said police personnel, but claimed that the brother had still not been released.
