Elderly woman killed, three including two children suffer burns as car catches fire

TAPAH: An elderly woman was burnt to death, while three others, including two children, suffered burns when the car they were travelling in caught fire on Jalan Bidor Lama here early today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations division) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 4.49am.

Sabarodzi said upon arrival, the elderly woman was burnt to death, while an adult woman and two children, estimated to be five and eight years old, suffered burns.

"The fire incident involved a Proton Saga car, and the damage is estimated at 98 per cent. The senior citizen was a backseat passenger.

"The body was handed over to the police for further action, while the burn victims were rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

"The identity of all the victims is yet to be ascertained, as all their personal belongings, including identification cards, were burnt during the incident," he said, adding that the operation ended at 6.30 am.
