Sales of firecrackers, fireworks only allowed with permit from district police, says Allaudeen

KUALA LUMPUR: Anyone found selling, buying, playing or in possession of illegal firecrackers and fireworks without prior approval from the district police chief is committing an offence.

City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said in a statement today that doing the above can be detained under Section 7 and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 which carries a seven years prison and/or RM10,000 fine.

"The sales of firecrackers and fireworks is only allowed with the approval of police permit from the respective district police, under the terms and conditions stated under the permit.

"Online sales or purchases of such items is also not permitted during this festive season," he said.

He reminded the public to be mindful of the people living in their surroundings and not to light up bany firecrackers past midnight as it would disrupt the peace and harmony of those living in their respective neighbourhood.

He said those who fail to follow the instructions can also be charged under Section 13 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957.

"We advise the public to follow and obey the provisions of the law while they enjoy the festive celebration without causing unnecessary disruption of peace or causing danger to all those living in the same vicinity," he added.

Yesterday, the federal police issued guidelines to those looking forward to setting off fireworks ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration starting tomorrow.
