KL police chief warns cops against leaking secret info

KUALA LUMPUR: City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid admitted that some personnel have been leaking confidential information on social media.

He said that such actions could jeopardise the country's security and tarnished the force's reputation.

"The principle of confidentiality must be adhered to, in line with the Official Secrets Act 1972 (Act 88), which prohibits the dissemination of information classified as official secret.

"The rapid development of technology provides opportunities and space for the wide dissemination of information, without considering the implications of criminal liability under the act," he said.

Allaudeen was speaking at the monthly assembly of the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters today.

On another matter, Allaudeen said Kuala Lumpur police's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department seized various types of drugs amounting to RM1.7 million last month, compared with RM1.8 million in the same month last year.

He said 2,352 people were arrested for drug offences last month, compared with 1,333 in January last year.

Allauddeen said Kuala Lumpur police's Commercial Crime Investigation Department continued to show success, with 366 operations and joint raids resulting in 421 arrests last month.

"In addition, four investigation papers were opened involving call centres. Two people have been charged and two are still under investigation," he said.
