Man nabbed for setting police vehicle ablaze in pursuit of TikTok fame: Police

KUALA LUMPUR: The 25-year-old man, nabbed for torching an auxiliary police vehicle at Mutiara Damansara, was believed to be chasing after hits and views on his TikTok account.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fakhrudin Abd Hamid said this was revealed after the p-hailing driver that was picked up at a flat in Flora Damansara today.

The man was also tested positive for morphine.

"Our investigation revealed that the suspect has no prior record. However, a urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned positive for morphine.

"The suspect also uploaded a video of the fire, lasting five seconds, on the TikTok application believed to be his own.

Mohd Fakhrudin said police also seized several tools, including a sledgehammer and water bottles used to fill up petrol, suspected to have been used in the arson incident.

He said police were alerted of the incident after receiving a call from a member of the public who witnessed a fire near the Mutiara Damansara MRT Station.

At about 1.17am, a Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) from the Petaling Jaya police headquarters, assisted by the Damansara Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire within 10 minutes.

Earlier, it was reported that a man had uploaded a video on TikTok claiming to have set fire to an auxiliary police vehicle.

The man uploaded a five-second video showing himself with the burning vehicle.

He also made a post stating: 'Berpuas hati dapat membakar kereta polis #polistakdekeje'. (Satisfied to have burned the police car #polistakdekeje).
