PERMATANG PAUH: The Cabinet has not discussed in detail on doing away with subsidies for foreigners.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said while the matter was touched upon, no decision has been made.
"The government will study in detail the benefit of the subsidies. Our priority is Malaysians.
"For the others, we have not had any detailed discussion yet," he told newsmen.
He was asked if there were plans to do away with subsidies for foreigners buying rice, cooking oils and other items.
Elaborating, Fahmi said there were many forms of subsidies.
"Right now, we are looking at the policies, nothing in detail yet," he added.
Meanwhile, when asked on the Malaysia Madani white rice issue, Fahmi said the matter would be discussed next week.
He said the prime minister would chair the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) meeting.
"We will allow that process to take place.
"Let NACCOL have the discussion and issue a subsequent statement after that," he said.
Anwar today said that the issue of price control on rice would be one of the main agenda to be discussed by NACCOL next week.
He said the meeting, which had been scheduled earlier, had to be postponed to next week to include more urgent matters such as rice price control.
