Former lawyer gets six years, whipping for molesting his girlfriend's daughter

KOTA KINABALU: A former lawyer was sentenced to six years imprisonment plus a stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here for molesting his girlfriend's daughter.

Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence on Kueh Kay Foo, 55, after finding him guilty of committing the offence against an 11-year-old girl at an apartment in Penampang between April 23, 2019 and May 15, 2019.

The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and also liable to whipping, upon conviction.

The court further ordered the accused to undergo counseling during his detention and to be placed under police supervision for three years after completing his sentence.

The accused, however, managed to obtain a stay of his execution pending an appeal to the High Court here.

The judge also extended his bail of RM 20,000 with RM 15,000 deposited under a local surety pending the disposal of the case.

During the trial, the prosecution called six witnesses while the defence produced two witnesses including the accused.

Deputy public prosecutor Rozana Abdul Hadi prosecuted while the accused represented himself.
