Mechanic arrested for hurting his girlfriend's daughter

JEMPOL: A 35-year-old mechanic was arrested for allegedly causing injuries to the daughter of his girlfriend in front of a supermarket in Bahau here yesterday.

Jempol district police chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook said the case came to light after the grandmother of the two-year-old girl found bruises and red marks on the victim's lips, ears and her left arm.

Preliminary investigation, he said, showed that the suspect took the victim out to the supermarket in Bahau yesterday to buy necessities before sending the girl home at 10.10pm.

The victim's mother did not join the suspect and her daughter when they went to the supermarket.

"The victim's grandmother was puzzled and immediately inspected the girl who was crying when she arrived home.

"She found red marks and bruises on the victim's lips, ears, and on her left arm," he said.

Hoo added that the woman tried to call her daughter to ask on what happened but failed as the latter went out with the suspect.

"The victim's grandmother lodged a report over the matter at 12.10am at the Bahau police station," he said.

Hoo said the victim was taken to Jempol Hospital for examination before the doctor confirmed that the victim had suffered injuries to the left eardrum, bruises on both ears, and injuries to the lower lip, face, and left arm.

The victim, he said, was referred to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital, Kuala Pilah, for further examination.

"The suspect, who has been in a relationship with the victim's mother for three months, was later arrested to assist in the investigation into the case,

"The suspect later admitted to injuring the victim while in the car in front of a supermarket. The suspect said he became angry after the victim refused to follow him out of the car," he said.

Hoo said the suspect has been remanded for seven days starting today until April 10 to assist investigation into the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
