Three dead, two injured in four-vehicle pileup on Pasir Gudang Highway

JOHOR BARU: A trailer driver transporting a container skidded and veered into the opposite direction of traffic before colliding with three vehicles at KM18.8 of the Pasir Gudang Highway today.

Two drivers and a passenger, aged between 40 and 70, were killed on the spot, while another driver and the trailer driver, both in their 30s, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Johor Baru (south) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the crash occurred at 2.21am when the trailer driver from Tanjung Pelepas lost control of the vehicle while heading towards Pasir Gudang.

The trailer crashed into road barriers on the far-right lane, crossed into the opposite traffic flow, and collided with a Perodua Alza, Myvi, and Honda Accord heading towards Perling.

Raub said the trailer finally came to a stop after hitting the three vehicles, almost blocking the four-lane highway heading towards Perling.

Investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 are ongoing.

Raub urged witnesses to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting Investigating Officer Inspector Nur Fathiha Ismail at 010-4171762.
