Nine-vehicle pile-up on Pasir Gudang Highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry that went out of control while trying to avoid another vehicle caused a nine-vehicle pile-up at the Pasir Gudang Highway in Johor today.

Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police were notified of the noon accident involving two lorries and seven cars at Km24 of the Pasir Gudang Highway.

"Initial checks found that the accident occurred about 11.30am when a lorry swerved to avoid another lorry in the left lane.

"The lorry driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with two cars in the right lane.

"This caused a pile-up with other cars that came from behind."

He said all victims suffered only minor injuries and police had received seven reports on the incident.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Sohaimi advised the public to always adhere to road rules and regulations and to drive vigilantly and responsibly.

Earlier, pictures and videos of the damaged vehicles from the pile-up went viral on social media.

On March 25, a lorry rammed 11 vehicles, injuring three motorists, along the same stretch of highway.
