Former policeman arrested for impersonating cops

KUALA LUMPUR: A former policeman who was dismissed from duty was arrested last Friday for allegedly wearing police uniform to commit crimes around the city.

It is understood that the male suspect in his 40s was apprehended by members of the police patrol unit of the Sentul district police headquarters near the Duta Toll Plaza, here.

Earlier, a 14-second video clip went viral on social media showing the suspect wearing a complete police uniform with the rank of corporal and a Royal Malaysia Police vest being apprehended by two officers.

It is understood that the suspect, riding a Yamaha motorcycle, attempted to stop a car for 'inspection' before his suspicious behavior was detected by patrolling officers.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief, Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, when contacted, said the suspect is a former police officer who has been dismissed from duty.

"This is a case of impersonating a police officer, in which the suspect in question is a former officer who was dismissed in 2022.

"The suspect was arrested to assist in the investigation under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a police officer," he told Harian Metro today.
