Former civil servant fined RM30,000, jailed a day for submitting false particulars

KUALA LUMPUR: A former civil servant has been sentenced to a fine of RM30,000 and a day in jail for submitting false particulars relating to repair works for the rehabilitation of dilapidated houses three years ago.

Sessions Court Judge Datuk Anita Harun meted the sentence after Muhammad Hafizul Akmal Hasbullah, 32, pleaded guilty after being charged with three new cases on top of two previous charges from Feb 22.

He was charged for submitting five documents to an agent, Salehuddin Ismail, who is the treasurer of the Sabak Bernam District Council, with the intention to deceive.

The documents contained false information about Repair Works for Dilapidated Houses in Urban Areas under the Sabak Bernam District Council Urban Poverty Eradication Program (PPKB).

An alternative charge was for deceitfully using invoice documents as genuine for the same repair works, of which the accused had reason to believe that the documents were fake.

Hafizul pleaded guilty to all five alternative charges under section 471 of the Penal Code for all cases.

The court ordered Muhammad Hafizul to serve an additional six months in prison if he failed to pay the fine.

The court also ordered the jail term to be run concurrently.

Hafizul was represented by lawyer Muhammad Affendy Mohd Yusop whilst Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and Prosecuting Officer Mohd Aliff Shaharuzaman prosecuted.
