Civil servant nabbed in Kedah over RM22,000 Rahmah sales false claims

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a civil servant to assist investigations into an alleged false claims of Rahmah sales amounting to RM22,000 last year.

A source said the suspect, a woman in her 30s, was arrested on Sunday at 9pm when she turned up at the Kedah MACC office to have her statement recorded.

MACC subsequently presented her to the Alor Star magistrate's court this morning for remand application.

"Magistrate Muhammad Zul Hilmi Latif granted MACC a five-day remand order beginning today," said a source.

The source added that the woman was suspected to have conspired with a company owner to issue an invoice containing claim amounts that were higher than the actual quantity sold.

"The matter was discovered when the invoice submitted contradicts the 2023 Rahmah Sales Programme Brief Report issued by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living state office," said the source.

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director Soock Wee Ei Tem, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
