Cops probing viral video of foreign workers allegedly being fleeced by policemen

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an internal investigation over a viral video alleging two policemen demanding money from foreigners in Sri Hartamas.

City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a criminal investigation could not be done because they received no report from the victims or those who posted the video.

"If we look at the video, we can't see that they are asking money from them, the officers are only seen walking back and forth.

"But we have identified them and an internal investigation is being carried out by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.

"We can investigate under the criminal code because no one appears to lodge a report," he told the New Straits Times.

A 25-second viral video recently depicted two officers allegedly demanding money from foreign workers, with the woman who recorded the video stating that she witnessed the two officers soliciting money from foreigners.

"Tan Sri, these officers "pow" (ask money) from Bangladeshi right in front of my eyes, these are their motorbikes (showing their plate numbers).

"These are the people who have tarnished the force's reputation, they demand money from every Bangladeshi in (Sri) Hartamas," she said.
