Restaurant worker who crashed his car into three Pakistani men pleads guilty to drug abuse

TELUK INTAN: A man, who crashed his car into three Pakistani men while they were on their way to the mosque on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to drug use at the magistrate's court here today.

Mohd Azizol Abdul Rasheed pleaded guilty to the offence when the charges were read to him before Magistrate T. Ashivinii.

According to the charge sheet, Mohd Azizol, who is a restaurant worker, was accused of consuming dangerous drug tetrahydro-cannabinol (THC) at 7.45 pm on Wednesday.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, read together with Section 38b of the same Act, which carries the maximum fine of RM5,000 and a jail sentence of not more than two years, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Rishan Kumar prosecuted, while Mohd Azizol was represented by Faustina Francis from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Ashivinii later set bail at RM3,000 with two sureties and ordered Mohd Azizol to report to the nearest police station once every two weeks.

She also fixed June 5 as mention to allow submission of pathology report on the case.

It was reported that three Pakistani men were killed while three others were severely injured when they were hit by a car driven by a man who was on drugs.

The victims who died on the spot during the accident were identified as Zahir Nur Muhammad, 31; Shayan Mumrazali, 22; and Adil Noorullah, 33.

Those who sustained severe injuries were identified as Muhammad Wali, 26; Yasen Afzalsha, 19; and Salem Said Rasol, 23.

The victims were walking along Jalan Teluk Intan-Bidor to a nearby mosque for Aidilfitri prayers yesterday when the accident happened.
