July 11 fixed for Bersatu info chief's sedition trial

KUALA LUMPUR: The trial of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Razali Idris for his alleged remarks against the judiciary, which was to start today, has been postponed to July.

Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali vacated the trial dates initially set from today until Friday after defence counsel Hasshahari Johari Nawi told the court they had sent a letter requesting for the trial to be rescheduled to June.

The letter submitted to the court had asked for the dates to be vacated as Razali, who is Kijal assemblyman and Terengganu state executive councillor, is scheduled to attend the state legislative assembly from today until Thursday.

It said it was compulsory for Razali, who is a senior executive councillor, to attend various official events and programmes scheduled from Friday to May 26 to mark the Sultan of Terengganu's birthday, and in view of Hari Raya Haji celebrations from June 16 to 18.

The court then set July 11, 12, 15 and 16 for trial.

On Nov 24 last year, Razali, 57, claimed trial to Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act for allegedly making remarks against the judiciary institution's court decision and claiming that it was "under the control" of the government.
