Sungai Golok bombing suspects walked across river into Kelantan

KOTA BARU: The suspects involved in the bomb explosion and gunfire in Pasemas district, Sungai Golok sub-province, are believed to have escaped to Kelantan via the shallow Golok river.

A Thai security spokesman said they believed the suspects, whos' nationalaties have yet to be ascertained, had crossed over the river soon after they fled from the scene.

"It is highly believed that they walked across the river as it had dried up due to hot weather.

He said the Thai authorities gathered this information soon after the attacks which injured four policemen.

Following the incident, the spokesman said the Thai authorities have ordered the closure of more than five illegal jetties on the Thai side, opposite Rantau Panjang in Kelantan.

"The closure began this morning and both Thai police and army were deployed to the jetties to check on unwanted movement.

"Several roads from Sungai Golok town to Mundok have been closed to all vehicles," said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, a visit to a few villages in Rantau Panjang today showed that few movements of vehicles were seen in the area.

Activities along the Golok river have also halted.

Kelantan police have set up several roadblocks in Rantau Panjang to nab the suspects.

It was reported that four Thai policemen were injured in an attack at their base in Pasemus district, opposite Bukit Lata in Rantau Panjang.
