Kelantan to fast-track land acquisition for Phase 2 of Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development project

KOTA BARU: The state government will take all the necessary steps to expedite the land acquisition process for Phase 2 of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development (PLSB) project.

Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the process needed to be sped up to enable the project to be carried out immediately.

"The state government welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement when he visited Kelantan on Thursday to review the flood situation and visit the flood victims at the relief centre.

"We would also like to express our recorded appreciation to the Prime Minister for the distribution of compassionate money amounting to RM177.96 million.

"This brings the total funds received by Kelantan for the year 2023 to RM216.96 million," he said in a statement.

Nassuruddin also thanked the Prime Minister for his approval of the RM6 million allocation to build temporary embankments for the Sungai Golok PLSB project.

"The procurement process for five new flood mitigation projects in Kelantan worth RM910.52 will start in 2024.

"The state government is confident that all the announcements will benefit the people of Kelantan as well as strengthen the spirit of federalism between the state government and the Federal government," he added.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to Kelantan, urged the state government to expedite the land acquisition process to enable Phase 2 of the PLSB project to start soon.

Anwar said he was informed that the Phase 2 of the project would take years to complete, and to speed up the project, he wanted the state government to expedite the land acquisition process so that the project could start early next year.

He added this was important to address the flood woes suffered by the victims in Kelantan.
