KOTA KINABALU: The government appreciates the civil service’s contribution through incentives and facilities, as their roles grow more challenging.
State secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, speaking to nearly 2,000 state and federal civil servants here, said the government continually improved the civil service through allowances, retirement schemes, medical care, leaves, promotions and study opportunities.
He said the state government has since 1994, given civil servants a bonus or other special payments, from as low as RM400 to one month’s salary, for 32 times, without fail.
“In other words, the government has been listening to civil servants’ concerns since the day they report for duty until they become a pensioner.
“What I want to emphasise is if we look at so many benefits provided, there is no reason for us as civil servants not to perform well or even have any dissatisfaction towards the government.”
He said this during his welcoming speech for the annual gathering of state and federal civil servants here with Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
He said the gathering was important as it provided an avenue for civil servants to learn about the aspirations for 2018 from Musa and use them as guidelines to execute government policies.
He reminded civil servants that their focus should always be on the government’s aspirations, and they should be loyal to the government.
Citing the new policies executed by the civil service, such as the Sabah Long-Term Strategic Action Plan 2016-2035 and Nasional Transformation 2050, he said commitment by state civil servants were vital to ensuring the programmes went smoothly.
