T'ganu woman who allegedly killed senior citizen with wok remanded

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against a 30-year-old woman to assist in investigations into the murder of a senior citizen here, on Friday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the suspect was taken to court at around 10am yesterday, escorted by a team of policemen from the Kuala Terengganu police station.

"We obtained a seven-day remand order starting yesterday. The suspect is being held at the station's lockup," he said today.

Rokiah A. Rahman, 85, died after being assaulted with a wok during a suspected robbery attempt by the 30-year-old – the elderly woman’s next-door neighbour – at her house in Kampung Belukar Jambu here, at about 1.30pm.

The victim died at the scene and her body was found lying unconscious by her daughter, Saripah Ibrahim, 52.

The suspect, who had hidden behind a cupboard, then attacked Saripah, strangling her and beating her on the head.

The commotion caught the attention of other family members and villagers, who apprehended the suspect and handed her over to the police.

Idris said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
