Number of flood relief centres in T'ganu rises to 3

KUALA TERENGGANU: More areas in Terengganu have reported flooding following continuous heavy rain overnight.

As of noon, three temporary flood relief centres (PPS) have been opened, two of which were in Kuala Nerus and the other here.

At present, 184 evacuees are being given shelter at the centres.

Earlier today, it was reported that one centre was opened at the Tok Jembal multipurpose hall in Kuala Nerus.

According to the state disaster management committee secretariat, the PPS was sheltering 124 victims from 54 families, while the second PPS in the district, at the Batin Perdana flats hall was housing 25 victims from four families.

At the PPS in SK Chendering here, nine families comprising 35 evacuees were seeking shelter.

The secretariat, meanwhile, has activated the state disaster operations room as of 10am.

The Malaysian Meteorological Services Department (MetMalaysia) had yesterday issued a heavy rain alert in Terengganu, which it said would continue till today.

MetMalaysia said the alert was effective in Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman.
