Unimap student from Penang falls to his death from hostel's 7th floor

PADANG BESAR: A first year student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (Unimap) fell to his death while attempting to enter his room on the 7th floor of his hostel building in Unicity, Sungai Chuchuh here, today.

Goh Xin Xi, 21, from Lintang Rajawali 4, Bayan Lepas, Penang, is believed to have slipped and fallen while trying to enter his room via a narrow ledge next to a window in the outside corridor.

It is not known why he was taking such a dangerous route to his room.

His body was found sprawled on the ground floor at 2.45pm today by another student who was passing the area.

In a statement, Unimap vice-chancellor Datuk Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal confirmed the case.

He said the Unimap medical team immediately despatched to the location pronounced Goh dead at the scene.

He said Goh's body was sent to the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Zul Azhar also said that the university has informed the victim's family in Penang.

He added that the university will bear the cost of sending Goh's remains back to his hometown.

Meanwhile, Perlis police chief Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said police have classified the case as sudden death.
