Johor govt accepts Latif Bandi's resignation from state exco

JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has accepted Datuk Abd Latif Bandi’s resignation from his official duty as a member of the State Executive Council.

In a statement today, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he accepted the resignation tendered by Latif, saying that the decision made by the Endau assemblyman was based on the best interest of all parties.

"I humbly respect his decision (to resign) and hope that justice would be served accordingly," he said.

Khaled also expressed his heartfelt thanks to Latif for his services during his tenure as a state exco.

"I pray that everything will work well and smoothly for him in all his endeavours," he said.

Latif, who is facing a number of corruption charges linked to a Johor housing scandal, was released on a RM2 million bail at noon today after paying the amount at the Johor Baru court complex.

He subsequently issued an official statement where he announced his resignation as the state Housing and Local Government exco member with immediate affect.

However, he remains a state assemblyman.
