Pakatan Harapan's GST flip-flop no surprise, says Johor MB

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he is not surprise that the Opposition has made a U-turn on the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

He said this not only proves that the GST is an effective and fair tax system but also that the Opposition tends to base their arguments on perceptions.

"When they said they wanted to abolish GST, they did not suggest any alternative to replace it. GST is the fairest system that has been proven and implemented in many countries.

"GST allows the government to fairly and sustainably collect revenue and thus reduce leakages. I am not surprise with the statement by (PKR vice president) Nurul Izzah (Anwar) on the matter," said Khaled.

It was reported that Nurul Izzah, in a ceremah in Penang on Sunday, had said that Pakatan Harapan will not abolish the GST if it comes into power in the next general election but will not continue with the current high percentage.
