Five men arrested after robbing 17 Bangladeshi nationals

KUALA LUMPUR: Police nabbed five people on Tuesday for allegedly robbing 17 Bangladeshi nationals at a house in Jalan Loke Yew four days ago.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sukri Kaman said the suspects, aged between 19 and 36, were picked up at a house in the same area.

Police seized 30 mobile phones from the men who were believed to be involved in at least three similar cases in the district this year.

Sukri said the case came to light on Saturday when one of them stopped a Bangladeshi man, in his 30s, near the area at 1.10am.

"The suspect demanded the victim to take him to the latter's house. Once they arrived, the suspect contacted his accomplices.

"The group, armed with a knife, stick and metal rod then robbed the victim and 16 of his housemates," he said.

He said one of the victims also sustained head injury during the attack. Losses were estimated at RM30,000.

Sukri said police are looking for another man, believed to be a member of the same group to assist investigations.
