Kelantan Umno welcomes MACC probe on state Wanita leader

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s move to investigate a state Wanita Umno senior leader for alleged abuse of power and misappropriation of funds was welcomed by Kelantan Umno today.

State Umno secretary Datuk Hanafi Mamat said Kelantan Umno will not interfere in the investigation and will leave it to the MACC to carry out its duty in the case.

"The senior leader still holds her position in Umno, and the party will not take action against her (unless) she is found guilty by the MACC," he told reporters after attending the Kelantan Umno technical meeting, in conjunction with the party's 71st anniversary here today.

A total of 300 state Umno division leaders and members attended the two-hour meeting which ended at about noon.

Hanafi was commenting on the recent arrest of the Umno leader, in her 50s, for suspected abuse of power and misappropriation of funds.

The woman, who is also a senior director of the Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPeim), was detained by the MACC on Tuesday, but was released on bail the following day.
