MPs' defection reveals directionless PN, says Kelantan Umno leader

KOTA BARU: The recent decision of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Members of Parliament to express support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration indicates they lack confidence in PN, says an Umno leader.

Kelantan Umno Information Chief, Datuk Zawawi Othman said that the move also signals a potential split within PN, especially in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

"The actions of the two MPs (in Kelantan) suggest a loss of confidence in the party they have been representing. It highlights their realisation that PN and Bersatu lack direction" he said.

Zawawi said that Kelantan Umno believes this decision by the MPs is a significant blow to Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, not to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"The two were Pas MPs because they contested under the party's tickets in the 15th General Election. Therefore, I believe the Pas president should also address this issue. People who are perceived as clean but are not will harm the party," he added.

He dismissed the notion that this move was a planned strategy by certain quarters to undermine PN and Bersatu.

Zawawi also expressed his belief that more MPs from PN would declare their support for the Madani government in the coming days.

"All these issues do not involve state Umno, and we will not interfere with them. Umno is a party with its own image, and people can make their own judgments," he concluded.

Zawawi was commenting on the recent declaration of support by two MPs from Gua Musang and Jeli for the Madani government, citing the well-being of their constituents.
