RAUB: A wild monkey sneaked into the Raub Hospital here and created a ruckus this morning.
The simian somehow gained entry to the hospital’s store room, where it jumped about, overturning medical equipment and other items, as worried hospital staff and patients looked on while keeping their distance.
The animal’s disruptive antics were finally brought to an end when a team of six firemen nabbed it.
District Fire and Rescue station chief Khairul Anuar Yaacob said they received a call about the situation from a hospital staff member at around 9.10am.
Four minutes later, the team of firemen arrived at the hospital, which is located not far from a forested area from where the monkey is thought to have originated.
"The monkey somehow managed to enter the hospital via one of its doors and ended up inside the store room.
"It became even more excited when confronted by the firemen," he said.
The glove-wearing rescuers, however, succeeded in capturing the monkey and released it in the forest, a distance away from the hospital.
Khairul said that it is rare for the fire department here to receive calls about simian intrusions on premises, but he expressed satisfaction that nobody was hurt in the incident, as wild monkeys can be quite aggressive.
