15 undocumented foreign workers nabbed at Penang construction sites

GEORGE TOWN: Fifteen illegal foreign workers were detained in a simultaneous raid at four construction sites in the northeast district of the island here today.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police, together with other government agencies launched the raids at about 9.30am to track down the workers.

The raid were conducted near Lebuh Katz, Jalan Nagore Ismail, Jalan Gelugor and Jalan Brown construction sites.

"In total, we have checked 140 foreign workers, aged between 18 to 40. They are from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan.

"Fifteen of them, including a woman, failed to produce their identification documents," he said in a statement.

The foreign workers were detained under Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to provide any valid travel documents.
