Ex-special officer to Melaka mayor arrested, to face corruption charges

MELAKA: A former special officer to the Melaka Historical City Council (MBMB) mayor is expected to face corruption charges at the Ayer Keroh Court Complex here in the morning.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of the 52-year old officer at the State MACC headquarters.

The officer will likely face charges for money laundering and criminal breach of trust framed under the Anti Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 and the Penal Code.

Having first come to light after he was remanded for four days by the MACC on Nov 28 last year to facilitate in investigations into various graft allegations, the 'Datuk' had initially resumed his duties at MBMB before being moved to the Tangga Batu Umno division in an executive role on their election machinery.

The New Straits Times broke news about the MACC investigations on Jan 9.
