T'ganu police cripple drug trafficking syndicates with arrest of 5 men

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state police believed they have crippled two drug trafficking syndicates in Seberang Marang and Batu Rakit with the arrest of five men in three raids on May 8 and 9.

State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief superintendent Roslan Tahir said the raiding party seized various types of drugs including heroin, stimulant pills and syabu worth RM34,850 during the raids.

The first raid on Monday was carried out at a house in Kampung Maras, Batu Rakit where a 27-year-old youth was detained on suspicion of his involvement in drug trafficking.

"Our men seized 1,832 stimulant pills weighing at 183.3g with a street value of RM12,150," he told reporters at the Kuala Terengganu police contingent here, today.

Roslan said the suspect is being remanded for seven days until May 16 at the Kuala Terengganu station under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

On the following day, four unemployed men from Marang, aged between 16 and 26, were detained. The four were in a Perodua MyVi parked at the Seberang Marang mosque's compound at 6pm.

"They were surrounded by the narcotics team and upon inspection, we found 13 vials of heroin weighing 62.45g worth RM5,850 on the street," he said, adding that two of the men had previous records.

Roslan said a total of 90 stimulant pills weighing 10.15g worth RM800 and RM2,040 in cash were also seized from the 26-year old man believed to be the leader of the syndicate.

"The arrest led the police to the house of a 23-year-old suspect in Padang Mengkuang, Marang, where another we found 33 vials of heroin weighing 142g worth RM14,850 and 80 Eramine5 pills weighing 10g worth RM16,050," he added, stating that police also seized a Honda Jazz, a Perodua MyVi and a SYM E-Smart motorcycle from them.

He said all four suspects are being remanded for seven days until May 17 at the Marang police station and investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug trafficking which carries the mandatory death sentence, if convicted.
