Authorities raid JJPTR's Penang main office

GEORGE TOWN: Close to 30 officers from Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Bank Negara Malaysia and Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) stormed into JJPTR’s main office in Jalan Perak here today.

Authorities ambushed the office at noon but barred reporters from entering the premises.

Penang CCID chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdul Ghani Ahmad confirmed the raid and said that it was done by Bukit Aman police team.

“Further clarification and information must be referred to Bukit Aman,” he said when contacted.

Previously, JJPTR claimed of losing almost US$400mil (RM1.7bil) to hackers.

Yesterday Bukit Aman CCID director Comm Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that five of the company’s account had been frozen pending investigations.

Late last month the company’s founder Johnson Lee had promised to return the money invested by some 31,000 members.
