Kedah RTD to seek solution on overloaded lorries in the state

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) will seek a solution on overloaded lorries plying in the state through a meeting with the operators.

State RTD director Ismasuhaimi Shariff said the meeting will take place in the next few days involving the various types of lorry operators.

He said the department has received numerous complaints on overloading of lorries, which poses a danger to other road users.

“After the meeting, we will conduct a one-month advocacy programme to make sure the operators abide by the rules, before we begin our enforcement,” he said here today after attending the state RTD Fun Ride in conjunction with 71st RTD Day.

Also present was RTD deputy director-general Datuk Yusoff Ayob.

Ismasuhaimi said although the department has conducted daily enforcement, there were still cases of operators not abiding the law, such as not covering the goods they are ferrying. This especially involved raw materials such as logs, stones and soil.

“We understand that they are high demand of such materials in the state but the operators must take heed the safety of other motorists using the same road,” he added.
