KUALA BERANG: A special ‘tahlil’ was held today in honour of the late former Hulu Terengganu Umno youth chief, Zakari Ali, who died a week ago.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is here on a state visit, attended the event at Zakari’s house in Kampung Gaung.

Zahid spent 30 minutes at the residence, reciting prayers and meeting with Zakari’s family.

Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman; Communications and Multimedia deputy minister Datuk Jailani Johari, who is Hulu Terengganu member of Parliament; and Kuala Berang state assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang.

Zahid had earlier arrived at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Gong Kedak, and flew in an RMAF Blackhawk helicopter to the Fire and Rescue Department academy in Wakaf Tapai.

He then attended a wedding reception for the son of Umno veteran, Datuk Alias Bakar, at Gong Kiat, Pengadang Baru, in Padang Midin; before proceeding for the “Himpunan Mesra Rakyat dan Pelancaran Jentera Jalinan Rakyat Plus (JR Plus)” in Marang.

Zakari, 63, died of a nerve disorder and viral attack at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu, at 4.40pm last Saturday.

He was the Sahabat Setia Umno Hulu Terengganu chairman and its division’s committee member.
