KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting to deliberate on the impending Pujut state seat by-election this Friday.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the meeting will be conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya at 9am.
“The EC today has received an official notification from the Sarawak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar on the vacancy of the Pujut state seat.
“The notice indicated the state seat was vacant after its assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon was stripped off his membership in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.
“A special meeting will be convened on May 19 at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya to discuss on the Pujut state seat by-election,” he said in a statement today.
