MCMC yet to receive any report on Wannacry in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry has yet to receive any report regarding the spread of the Wannacry ransomware.

Its minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said as of today, no report has been made to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) relating to the presence of the malware in the country.

The government, he said, would ensure that the country’s cyber security is increased as the malware is spreading fast across the globe.

“This malware is happening in many countries and everyone needs to be on high alert as it isn’t a one-off case, it is on-going.

“It is also vital for everyone to be extra vigilant and increase their firewall protection to avoid from falling prey to the ransomware,” he said after attending the ‘Sepetang Bersama Karyawan Seni’ event here today.

He added that MCMC had issued a guideline on the precautionary measures Internet users should adhere to and called on members of the public to report to the commission if they encounter such cases in the country.

Earlier, CyberSecurity Malaysia released a statement of an academic institution being hit by the ransonware.
