Car ploughs into Penang food stalls, at least four injured

GEORGE TOWN: A car ploughed into several hawker stalls in Lorong Baru, near Jalan Macalister today, injuring at least four people.

Police said in the 6.35pm incident, the driver, who was about to head for the main road, was believed to have accidentally switched to the reverse gear of her Hyundai i10 before crashing into the stalls.

Four patrons, who were eating at the stalls sustained minor injuries.

One of them, Woon Kwee Foon, said he sustained serious bodily injuries and currently receving treatment at the Penang Hospital.

Northeast District police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar in a statement said police are still tracking down the female driver who was belived to have left the scene after the accident.

"She was not there when our men arrived at the scene, we are still tracking her," he said, adding that he case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
