Mara expels 10 MRSM bullies

REMBAU: Ten students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Parit in Perak have been expelled in connection with a recent bullying case involving six Form Two students.

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the decision was made by the Mara appeal committee board.

The board heard the appeal made by the 10 students after their two-week suspension from Mara following the incident.

Their expulsion letters were issued yesterday after a full investigation into the matter was completed.

“Based on the information provided by the victims, witnesses, the 10 students involved and investigation reports conducted by MRSM Parit, Mara secondary education disciplinary committee is satisfied with the evidence provided and we have come to a decision to expel the students, effective immediately.

“The decision was made without prejudice and the whole investigation process complied with MRSM disciplinary management procedures,” he said.

Ahmad Jazlan said such offences would not be tolerated.

“MRSM is an institution aimed at developing well-rounded students to be successful in their studies and to build good behaviour and character. We are not going to compromise on this matter,” he said.

In the May 6 incident, six Form Two students aged 14 were said to be assaulted by a number of seniors, aged between 15 and 16.

Ahmad Jazlan said such stern action served as an important reminder to all students that bullying will not be tolerated.
