Malaysia to make history by being first SEA nation to host 'Going Global'

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to make history by being the first Southeast Asian nation to host the ‘Going Global’ international education conference.

Going Global 2018, organised by British Council, which will draw government agencies, ministers, policy makers, institutions and senior education leaders from across the world, will be held on May 2 to 4 next year in Kuala Lumpur.

Delegates can expect an opportunity to debate international higher education issues and challenges, and discuss collaborative solutions.

Higher Education Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur said the Malaysian delegates took the opportunity of their presence in this year’s conference in London, held on May 22 to 24, to promote Kuala Lumpur as the venue for ‘Going Global 2018’.

Dr Noorul, who represented Malaysia at this year’s closing session of the forum, said support by the Asean secretariat will see the ministry working together with the council to host the conference.

“Malaysia is the first country in Asean to be chosen as venue of Going Global. This is an acknowledgement of the ministry’s efforts and Malaysia’s achievements in improving the delivery of higher education.

“It will also provide a platform for higher education experts, practitioners and stakeholders on how best to work together to respond to the changing higher education landscape and in support of economic and social developments,” she said.

This year, more than 1,000 delegates from 80 countries attended the London conference, which bore the theme “Global Cities: Connecting Talent, Driving Change”

Going Global was first held in London in 2011 and alternated with other cities such as Hong Kong (2011), Dubai (2012), Miami (2014) and Dubai again (2016).
