Security along Kelantan-Thai border at maximum level: Army commander

KOTA BARU: Security along the Kelantan-Thai border has been increased to the maximum level following three terror attacks in neighbouring countries this week.

Eighth Infantry Brigade commander Brig Gen Nazari Abdul Hadi said all soldiers manning the border along the Golok River and the mainland have been ordered to beef up surveillance.

"The soldiers were directed to increase checks along the 128km border along the Golok River and the mainland, from Jeli to Tumpat.

"(Enforcement personnel of) other agencies, such as the police and the Immigration department, have been directed to intensify checks at the three border checkpoints," he added.

Nazari said all efforts are being made to prevent unwanted elements from neighbouring countries to sneak into Malaysia.

It was reported today that the Armed Forces have been instructed to heighten border controls following terror attacks in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines this week.
