Kelantan gov't yet to receive resignation letters from PKR members

SHAH ALAM: The Kelantan state government has yet to receive any resignation letter from PKR members with political appointments in the state so far.

This was despite the directive by PKR's political bureau for these members to quit the state government after Pas terminated its tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with PKR.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said matters involving the Pas-led state government with PKR remained status quo.

“They have not resigned from any position. Right now, everything is proceeding as usual. That was not what we had expected,” he said on Friday night at the Ihya’ Ramadan Bersama Anak Perantauan Kelantan at Dewan Bunga Kertas.

In Kelantan, PKR’s Mohd Roslan Puteh is the Guchil assemblyman while there are several councillors attached to the Ketereh Islamic Municipal Council. There are also PKR appointments for state and parliamentary seats.

On May 11, Pas’s Syura Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh announced that the Islamic party was officially ending its nine-year alliance with PKR.

The decision was made based on PKR’s action which breached many conditions of the political cooperation.

Three in particular were the fact that PKR was not supportive of Pas in some of its Islamic agenda such as Act 355, it has been critical of Pas’s leadership and principles, and the party was also making false accusations, tainting the Pas’s image.

Following Pas’s decision, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had asked that its politically-appointed party members in Kelantan’s state government, to resign immediately.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said in the 14th general election, Pas will defend all parliamentary and state constituency seats it had won in Kelantan.

Asked if Pas would field candidates in seats held by PKR, Ahmad said they would wait and see.
