Hasanudin Hassan is new Kelantan police chief

KOTA BARU: Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan takes over as Kelantan police chief beginning today.

The former head of the Study Centre for Crisis and Disaster Management Science at the Royal Malaysian Police College, replaces Datuk Dr Ab Rahman Ismail who died at the National Heart Institute in April.

At a ceremony at the Kelantan police contingent today, acting Kelantan police chief Senior Assistant Commisioner Din Ahmad, who is also the state deputy police chief, handed over the duty to Hasanuddin.

Presence at the event was Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Mohd Sabtu Osman.

In his speech, Hasanuddin said he had been briefed that the crime index between Janauary and May this year showed a fall of 14.38 per cent from 2,065 cases last year to 1,768 cases.

However, he said, they must not be satisfied with the downtrend.

"More effort must be put in especially in Pasir Puteh and Jeli, where the index has shown a rise," he said.
