Terengganu shuts evacuation centres, Kelantan sees drop in evacuees as east coast flood situation improves

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in the east coast has significantly improved as Terengganu closes its temporary evacuation centres and Kelantan sees a decrease in evacuees.

The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat in a statement said the last temporary evacuation centre in the state, namely the Wakaf Tengah Housing Estate multipurpose hall in Kuala Nerus which housed six victims, was closed at 2pm today.

Meanwhile, according to the Social Welfare Department's Disaster Info portal, flood victims in Kelantan have dropped to below 4,000 evacuees, a significant decrease from yesterday.

The 3,614 flood victims belong to 1,143 families and have been placed in relief centres across three districts – Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Kuala Krai.

In Pahang, Maran is the only district still affected by floods, with two flood relief centres housing 34 victims from 11 families.

In the south, the portal reported that two temporary evacuation centres were open, housing 54 flood victims from 14 families.

They are housed at evacuation centres in the district of Segamat, Johor.
